Project Description

Wings of the Morning

On the first day of this century, a corrupted State in West Africa is invaded by a private army. The incursion is supported by a colonising force bringing aid, relief and resuscitation. A new country, Millennium, is born and a new order is established.

The coup has been masterminded by David Heaven, an English entrepreneur with a lifetime’s experience of Africa, and four collaborators who have been friends since University days. They are joined by a dominant financier with a Midas touch and by the love of David’s life who is the daughter of an African freedom fighter.

Wings of the Morning recounts how a vision became an obsession, how the plotting and the planning courted disaster and how success was challenged by an interloper who was waiting in the shadows for a chance to steal the dream.

This is a story of Africa, depicting its grandeur and beauty as well as the frightening savagery which can erupt in an instant. It is fiction, but these events could have happened anywhere between the Sahara and South Africa during the last fifty years. They might be happening now.

Kidnap!

As the year progressed, it would have been inconceivable to her that Thierry Cestac, this handsome, cultured Frenchman with his energetic lovemaking, was all the while preparing her for sale. He had received an approach from an end user client in the Middle East. The man had bought two girls from other procurers but neither had lasted more than six months. When the initial thrill was satiated, he resorted to pleasuring himself with such violent treatment that both girls had died at his personal hand. The client would now pay without limit for a girl of exceptional attraction but also one of breeding, character and brains.

Rescue?

Alexa got herself into a cubicle, sat down and shivered as she thought. ‘Conrad? Could it really be him? Why was he here? Perhaps she could ask him for advice and surely he could at least get her away from the minder.’ Then the nausea returned, followed by a fresh attack of panic in which she was convinced that the roof was coming down on her head. She sprang up and fled out of the Ladies.

Africa

Rory was accustomed to the bestiality of his native continent but he had never witnessed the like of this. He gave himself some cautious visibility. The group of men was filtering apart and padding noiselessly towards his hiding place. He was hopelessly outnumbered but he lay there quietly, waiting for the signal he knew would come. Smell.

Black men and white smell differently, especially in times of fight or flight. Rory couldn’t see the enemy, nor hear them. But he could smell them and that gave him the advantage he needed. A naked foot with splayed toes arrived by his head and paused before the other leg advanced over Rory’s recumbent body. He smelt the rancid odour of the man’s crutch and caught a glint from the panga knife which hung from one wrist. Rory struck. His left hand shot up through the open loin cloth and grabbed the testicles while his right took the wrist which held the weapon and shook it violently.

The man collapsed with a shrill yowl on top of where Rory’s head had been lying but that had moved in the same split instant, twisting smoothly as he caught up the panga, slashing it into the body and slamming the head onto the floor with crushing force. One down.

“A brilliantly thought out plot, intelligently put down on paper. A great book to take with you on holiday – a really good read.”

“The perfect holiday read. Neither myself or my husband could put it down when we read it. A Wilbur Smith-esque African saga spread over several generations of inter-woven families. Highly recommended.”

Amazon Reader

“Don’t start this book – unless you have time enough to finish it because it’s impossible to put down. Loved all the twists in the story and all the different characters. Seriously recommended read for anyone who likes a good yarn!”

“I really enjoyed this book. Julian does sex and violence really well – my favourite scenes were action-thriller ones which really gripped me. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting a fast paced book with relevance and action.”

Amazon Reader

“I have not read many books twice but Wings of the Morning was an exception. Beale’s ability to combine intense life stories with gripping themes is even more exciting second time round.”
